he Hylite on this page all comes from The Erongo Mountains in Namibia, south-east of the Brandberg.
Hylite is a relatively rare mineral in this area. It is often white or a pale yellow or green in colour. It is very fluorescent under Ultra Violet light, displaying as a glowing yellow or green. Some of the specimens appear to fluoresce in sunlight, because of their gemmy colour.
There has not been much Hylite found in The Erongo Mountains in recent years. Mining is difficult in this area as the minerals often occur in veins along sheer faces of rock. General access to the area has also been limited, making this rare mineral even more difficult to obtain.
Fortunately we do have a large selection in stock, after years of collecting.
Sometimes the Hylite occurs with Black Tourmaline (Schorl) or Smokey Quartz. It is often found with Feldspar associated.
