here are several mines which make up the Kalahari Manganese Fields. This is South Africa's main mineral specimen locality at present. As the name suggests, the area is primarily comprised of Manganese mines, but a wide variety of associated mineral specimens have been found.
The specimens have originated mainly from three mines: N'Chwaning I and II, and the Wessels Mine, although some mineral specimens have been found at several of the other mines in the region.
Some of the minerals are relatively rare, Inesite and Sugilite, for example. And there have been some magnificent specimens of Rhodochrosite found in this area. In fact, the discovery of some of these Rhodochrosite specimens, is what put this mine on the map, as far as mineral collectors are concerned.
